London Fashion Week Roundup: Six Must-Know SS15 Trends

London Fashion Week Roundup: Six Must-Know SS15 Trends

Charlie Bradley Ross Wednesday, 24 September 2014

One of the most surprising trends this London Fashion Week was the rise of the normal! The runways were full of easy going and inherently wearable styles; casual and sporty were the go to looks, paired with rucksacks, flat loafers and trainers. Sounds good to me!

Here are our six key Spring Summer 2015 trends aka "SS15 Trends" that you have to know:

1. Sheer

Sheer Fashion Trend 2015

Not one for the faint hearted but "barely there" is where it’s at.  Chiffon and tuille will be everywhere, go modest with a nude slip underneath or show off equally fashionable big pants. Get the look with a selection of luxurious, hand woven Silk Organzas and do like Marios Schwab (centre), Burberry Prorsum (left) and Topshop Unique (right).

2. Gym Chic

Gym Trend Spring Summer 2015

Sports Luxe has been around for a few seasons now, but it’s getting more and more refined. You could see the sportswear influence in nearly every one of Topshop Unique's (left) catwalk looks. Preen (right) mixed ditsy floral and sporty stripes to great effect and Nasir Mazhar (centre) went all out with a boxing theme. A great trend for pretending you’re using that expensive gym membership if nothing else!

3. Trainers

Trainer Trend 2015

Now, I read somewhere just before fashion week that trainers were on their way out. I didn’t quite believe it myself. No matter how fashion conscious they are, it’s not going to be easy to coerce people out of their super comfy sneakers back to... well, any other shoe. Like skinny jeans and ballet pumps before them, trainers are a trend with staying power. It seems the fashion world thinks so too with Burberry Prorsum (left) and Temperley (right) being kind to their models feet this season. Elsewhere on the catwalk were flat loafers and Birkenstock style sandals - our feet are rejoicing!

4. Slouchy

Slouchy Trend 2015

We can’t wait for all these slouchy laid back styles to be in fashion. Has comfy ever been so stylish? Richard Nicholl (left) adds an air of surfy cool with this super long skirt. Jonathon Saunders (middle) ticked all the boxes: it’s slouchy, it’s sheer and it’s inspired by Matisse as an added bonus! We couldn’t possibly go without mentioning recycling genius Christopher Raeburn (right), this coat is made from an old parachute. It begs the question: where on earth did he find a pink parachute and where can I get one to make my own?!

5. 70’s Trouser Suits

70s Trouser Suit Trend 2015

The 90’s revival is still full swing right now but these designers are jumping back a couple more decades. 70’s flower power prints were all over the place, most effectively at Henry Holland (left), his bold, eye catching prints are enviable. Tom Ford (middle) went a bit more glam rock with metallic flares, matching top and platforms. Mathew Williamson (right) showed off a much more casual pant suit, but still with a 70’s swish.

6. Denim

Denim Fabric Trend Fashion 2015

As I said, casual was everywhere on the runway and what could be more casual than the humble denim jacket? Maybe these ones aren’t so humble. Henry Holland (left) added to his 70’s vibes with this colourful number. Burberry Prorsum (middle) played with scale and colourful latex. But we think the most exciting use of denim came from newcomer Faustine Steinmetz (right), who uses recycled denim, she reweaves and re-felts it into these amazing outfits all here in the UK! Here are some great Fairtrade, hand woven and organic denims to keep you ahead of the trend.
