Our contributor Susie talks natural dye gardens

Hi, I am Susie Wareham and am currently studying MA Fashion Futures, at the London College of Fashion. I am interested in the natural world and its effect upon the fashion industry. By raising awareness of plants’ alternative uses, we can begin to comprehend the shortcomings of synthetic dyes. Using locally sourced natural dyes, I run group workshops designed to teach innovative dying techniques as well as explore colour and pattern on fabric. Whilst studying for a BA in Fashion Communications at Birmingham City University, I started to view the fashion industry in a new light. However, it was my gap year in Africa which confirmed the importance of sustainability within my work.

Susie teaches a very interesting hands on workshop where she takes you through the steps to create your own beautifully dyed textiles, using only natural materials and sustainable processes. There are no places left on the one taking place on March the 8th, but you can still book for April 5th! http://www.ecomecreative.co.uk/?page_id=41
