Interior Trends: Autumn Winter 2014

Interior Trends: Autumn Winter 2014

Charlie Bradley Ross Tuesday, 30 September 2014

This season is all about texture, geometric shapes, monochromatic backdrops and bright pink toned accents. Interior trends Autumn Winter 2014 fall into two contrasting themes, “Industrialism” and “Myths” dominating Autumn Winter interiors, it is an exciting time to update homes and bring a personal touch to décor.

Handmade accessories immediately give a living space that personal touch, transforming a house from a place that's lived in, into a home. You don’t have to be a master seamstress, or sewing expert either. This season is all about authenticity, so what better time to work your magic on a few key pieces for a neglected or tired room?

Here are my on-trend Autumn/ Winter colours and matching fabric ideas that are perfect for revamping rooms. As with all Offset Warehouse fabrics, these are all environmentally and socially beneficial too:

1. Sangria

Summer might be over, but this vivid pinky purple colour is one of the hottest colours this Autumn. This Burgundy Hessian is a perfect colour match, and a great fabric for creating pinboards, rugs, or for reupholstering those worn out chairs.

2. Monochrome

Black and white has never been so fashionable, and with Banana fibre on every interior designer’s lips, this Textured Black and White Banana Fabric is the go-to textile. Thick and warm, it’s a great fabric with which to create cushions, throws and duvet covers.

3. Aurora Red

A beautiful and rich, pink-toned red, this colour is fabulous when contrasted with pale or monochromatic rooms (if pale is up your street, then check out my recent post about Pale & Interesting décor). The Scarlet Hand Block Organic Cotton is an ideal colour match - the bold pattern and colours make it perfect for cushion covers, statement wall coverings or even hanging ornaments! If you've not heard of block printing before, then please do read my recent article explaining the block printing process - and be prepared to fall in love with these types of fabric!

If the strong, red print isn’t for you, why not be more subtle with this gorgeous Tyulipa Organic Hand Block Print? The splashes of red along the petals add texture and depth, whilst alluding to the Aurora Red trend, but in a much more adaptable way. Like the Scarlet Hand Block Organic Cotton I’d use it for cushion covers, blinds and statement wall coverings.

4. Aluminium

In keeping with the industrial theme, this light grey colour finds its perfect home in our Light Grey Hessian. Durable and perfect for rugs, upholstering furniture, and for cushions, it’s a great fabric to have in mind when rethinking a living space.
